In 1944 a tradition began, Louis and Nettie Gorat started what is now one of the finest,
oldest and most highly regarded restaurants in Omaha. Having visited New York City
several times, it became their aspiration to bring the quality and style of a fine dining New
York style restaurant to Omaha. They searched the entire Midwest area for the highest
quality beef available. When they were satisfied with the excellence of the steaks that the
beef they bought yielded, they had the neon sign in front of the building inscribed with the
phrase “The Finest Steaks in the World”. Gorat's has proudly maintained this motto
ever since.
Gorat's is an Italian Steakhouse that holds approximately 250 guests per seating. The
comfortable family atmosphere, superior food quality and consistently fine service has
attracted many customers throughout the years. Whether dining with the family or for any
other occasion, Gorat's has all the ingredients to provide a wonderful dining experience. A
menu with variety, from steak to chicken, seafood to pasta, all prepared by hand daily and
priced affordably. Gorat's features a lounge with live entertainment on the weekends and a
dance floor. What more could be asked of a steakhouse. Many restaurant owners fail and
have to sell, but Gorat's has stood tall and on the top for over 60 years.
According to Jim Delmont of the Omaha World Herald “the filet ordered somewhere in
between medium and medium rare, was pink, juicy, crusty, salty, and bursting with flavor.”
The T-bone, favored by Warren Buffett, a dear friend of the family and a valued customer,
not to mention one of the richest men in the world, is one of the best cuts of steak one can
buy. This particular steak is two in one, the filet on one side of the bone and the sirloin on
the other. This consistent menu will continue to delight Gorat's clientele for years to come.
